You probably already know that Jeri’s sunset is a true spectacle. But did you know you can watch the sunset from the water? That’s right. In addition to Fortaleza, Kayakeria now has a base in Jericoacoara and offers tours every morning and afternoon so you can enjoy the sunrise and sunset alongside other paddlers and experienced instructors.

According to Rafael Medeiros, the Hawaiian canoe is an ancient vessel used by Polynesian peoples for transport and exploration. “Our first canoe, Iracema, arrived in Ceará in 2015. We started the Kayakeria watersports school in Fortaleza back in 2012, and in July 2024 we decided to expand to Jericoacoara.” Currently in Jeri, they have four OC6 canoes, one OC4, one V1, and one OC1. These go out daily at 5:00 a.m. (sunrise) and 4:30 p.m. (sunset).

Kaline Medeiros, a paddler since 2017 and Rafael’s wife, emphasizes that paddling is also a chance to connect with others. “In outrigger canoeing, we rely on one another.” The calm and contemplative rhythm of the canoe is set by the steersperson, who sits at the back and also controls the direction. The couple started dating in 2017, got married in 2023, and since early 2025 have been living in Jeri.
